Opportunities for cross merchandising are often seasonal (holiday season is a good time) but year-round pairings like smoking cessation and weight loss should not be neglected.
The reason it so often works is that people buy solutions rather than products. Pharmacies can potentially sell more by prompting people to buy something they’d not previously considered. Customers gain because they think to pick up things they’d probably not have thought of till they got home.
